The world of acronyms just got a new addition it seems, as GOOF is added to the lexicon for journalists writing on the Business, Gaming, a..

The survey has some rather interesting additional statistics in it that I suspect might be very useful in the process of picking which online mates I select as couch-crash space on next summer's trip to the UK... I mean hey, a couch is a couch, that is not really an issue, but let me ask you, would you rather play games on a honking huge TV connected to the sound system in your mates media room, or a portable black & white TV in the laundry room that they converted into a game room because the wife doesn't care for the noise in COD?
Among the revelations of the survey is the fact that among the other popular items for the GOOF generation is the fact that one in ten (10%) have their own home cinema!
"This proves that gadgets hold as much, and sometimes more, appeal to older generations than younger ones. The over-50s often have more disposable cash for high end products such as tablets and flatscreen televisions and have more time to enjoy them, too," said Matt Hodgins, event director, Gadget Show Live Christmas.
"But many also enjoy the greater freedom and convenience that young consumers may take for granted. Older people can use the internet connection of a laptop, tablet, phone or PC to keep in touch with friends and family, shop online and keep abreast of current events."

According to this BBC article, more video game are sold annually in the UK than DVD's -- the question is how many of the people buying games are GOOFS?
And play video games... You forgot play video games, Matt. We will excuse you for that gaff considering that your event -- Gadget Show Christmas Live -- is featuring the latest technology must-haves for Windows, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox. But seriously, if I send you my friends list can you pinpoint which ones have their own Home Cinema for me?
It seems that we are not quite done with acronyms just yet... Apart from GOOFs, the Gadget Show research identified some other interesting groups, among which are GAGS -- Gadget Addicted Girls -- so I am going to need to see the raw data on that last, with particular attention to names, ages, and preferred libation. It was a complete survey, non?
A tech piece would not be complete if we did not include some statistics, so here without any fuss are the ten important gamer ownership results from the survey -- which helps to illustrate what is important to the average GOOF:
(0001) Laptop 81%
(0010) Smartphone 73%
(0011) Flatscreen TV 71%
(0100) Tablet 40%
(0101) Kindle 40%
(0110) Portable games console 31%
(0111) Games console 22%
(1000) Satellite TV 20%
(1001) iPod docking system 13%
(1010) Home cinema 10%
Next year it would be helpful if you could also include the percentage of GOOF's with a home bar, the percentage of their home bars that have Guinness on tap, and then list them by Gamertag. It's Wednesday, what can we say?!
