Europa Universalis IV
Cultivating a gnome inside the high-security gates at Paradox Interactive was no easy task, let us assure you -- to begin with there is the fact that the main facility is located in Stockholm, Sweden, which means that there are only like what? Nine days out of the year when it is not snowing? Add to that the fact that they hired a band of Trolls to function as their perimeter security, and you can see how getting in to collect the information can be tricky... After all while Scandinavian Trolls tend to be very big, hairy, stupid, and slow to act, once they do decide to act it is Katy-bar-the-door time, and remember we taste good to them, I am just saying...
Still your happiness is important to us, so we made the effort and actually had a gnome in place and spying for us for all of a week, and then the idiot goes and tells its best friend (we never were certain if it was make or female, those Scandinavian gnomes all look alike to us) and their buddy went and turned them in, and they got eaten by the Trolls. Lucky for us we had also managed to connect with a Huldra who was pushed off of her ancestral land near Malmö, and she needed the money... So good on us!
The first report from our spy at Paradox, who prefers to be known by her codename, which is Misty, reveals that every Friday from now until the official release date, Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studios will be taking you deep inside the development of their grand empire building game "Europa Universalis IV." Awesome news indeed!
The information she has obtained includes a general briefing on the game -- in which you as a player can pick your favorite royal seat from hundreds of countries, every one of them unique, and then govern it however you choose in an addictive battle for survival, for territory, or to bend history itself to your will, very cool that. The regular diary entries are intended to keep you up-to-date on the progress that they are making with the game it seems, and in the first diary, Johan Andersson, Studio Manager at Paradox Development Studios, focuses upon the "Europa Universalis IV" map:
"If the world of 'Europa Universalis IV' is your playground, then the map is the sandbox -- this is where you shape your plans and turn various traits associated with the territories into mighty empires. If you are familiar with Paradox Development Studio (PSD) games, then you already know that the map is almost everything. The map is where the magic happens," Andersson said, adding that "You know it, we know it."
You can read the complete developer diary by pointing the magical web-access device of your choice at the Diary Page.
