Gearbox Software Launch Retro Version of Borderlands Called The Border Lands

When you're releasing the sequel for your massively popular co-op RPG, what's the plan of marketing action for most publishers? Put together a few eye-catching trailers? Get your best writers to draft press releases? Or maybe you'd have a visual artists and come and prepare some high quality screenshots for the media? Not 2K Games - oh no, as 2K, with developer Gearbox Software and the BAFTA-winning creative agency, Ralph, have just announced that on the way to the Borderlands 2 release date, fans of the series will be able to play a retro-fied version of the original game that set up the Borderlands series for success.

Called 'The Border Lands', in a press release, 2K Games have described the title as "a 16-bit lo-fi game which offers a tantalizing glimpse into the origins of many elements still present in today’s hit franchise". So while it may not have the gorgeous cel-shaded graphics, nor the extrvagant number of guns and weapon combinations, it will give you an insight on how the super-polished and critically acclaimed end product, Borderlands, came to be.

The Borderlands 2 release date is the 19th of September (North America) and is available internationally from the 21st of September.
