When it comes to to basketball culture, the multi-millionaire, Grammy-award winning rapper and part-owner of professional basketball team, the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z, is no stranger. And while the internationally-known megastar is best known for the lyrics and beats of his chart-topping rap hits, basketball, in turn goes hand in hand with the hip-hop scene, so to say that Jay-Z is a person who would be well-suited to work on a basketball game, is an understatement.
A team of basketball video game makers who agree with this is 2K Sports who have just announced that Jay-Z will be the executive producer for their basketball sim, NBA 2K13. 2K Sports are adamant that Jay-Z's involvement in their game will make a huge difference, with 2K Sports saying that his "artistic vision and style will permeate the experience" and that although he hand-picked every song on the game's soundtrack (some of which you can click here to listen to), which includes hits from the man himself as well as choice hits from Kanye West, Daft Punk, and Coldplay, his music knowledge won't be the only thing that influences the dev teams choices.
While 2K Sports have not yet revealed the specifics of Jay-Z's executive production work, they continued to say that "JAY Zs role in NBA 2K13 represents a unique fusion of basketball, music, art, and entertainment, and illustrates the evolution of NBA 2K into something much bigger than simply the best basketball video game series ever made", that sounds like good news for how NBA 2K13 will play.
The NBA 2K13 release date is October 2nd, 2012.
