While the game has recently set the Internet alight with footage of its ultra-realistic graphics and combat scenes, many fans have been wanting to know the answer to a critical question - "will The Last of Us have multiplayer?"
The game sees two survivors, rugged guy Joel and a young girl named Ellie, travelling West through a ravaged America as a horrific disease has plagued the population. The enemy comes in the form of the mutant-like sufferers of the illness and in the form of fellow human survivors who can and will try and end your life if it means that they get to survive for a little while longer. Clearly, with this being the story player mode, it's very meaty even without teaming up with a friend, however, developer Naughty Dog (the creatives behind the Uncharted series) have now confirmed that The Last of Us will indeed include multiplayer.
Speaking to GamesTrailer, The Last of Us' creative director, Neil Druckmann, stated that "there is multiplayer in The Last of Us" but that Naughty Dog "are not ready to talk about what that is exactly just yet". Our best guess is that The Last of Us will feature some sort of co-op gameplay but we can expect an official release from Naughty Dog about this feature soon.
Druckmann also comments on what the team hopes that players will take from The Last of Us, as well as a note on how the story fits together - you can watch the interview with him below.
The Last of Us release date is 2013.
