Earlier this month online games giant Zynga launched its next big Facebook title -- Hidden Chronicle -- a murder-mystery game that prominently features puzzles, clues -- and you!
While the game got off to a slow start, the recent tie-in with Zynga's massive hit farming simulator Farmville may well be the spark required that will cause Hidden Chronicle to take off in a similar trajectory. Gamers in Farmville this week received a notice that Farmville gamers who play Hidden Chronicle and advance their character to Level 6 will receive a half-dozen special in-game items in Farmville that will allow them to unwither their spoiled crops.
The prize item can be especially valuable to gamers in Farmville, a game in which timing is everything and being late to harvest often means losing an entire crop.
About Hidden Chronicle
The opening scene for the game has you receiving a letter from your Uncle Geoffrey that summons you to his home -- Ramsey Manor -- but when you arrive you discover that you are too late; your uncle has died and the circumstances surrounding his death are very suspicious. It is up to you to uncover the clues and solve this mystery -- but you will have the help of his trusted aids.
This is the premise behind app developer Zynga's newest social hidden object game -- and the puzzle-based Hidden Chronicles is now available on Facebook whether you are a Farmville gamer or not. The puzzle-focused game rewards good memory, puzzle-solving skills, a sharp eye, and the ability to patiently repeat scenes over and over until you perfect them.
Like all of Zynga's titles, this one is focused upon the social aspects of Facebook, and encourages the player to invite as many of their Facebook Friends as they can into the game. Like the other Zynga title Fronteirville, having neighbors (the friends that you invite become your neighbors) means gaining access to extra energy per day, which means extra play time.
In addition to expanding play time, the limited social interaction in the game allows gamers to challenge their freinds to a time-based game in which whoever finds the most designated items wins. As players progress through the game by completing quests, solving interactive puzzles, and earning coins to unlock new scenes, they raise levels and eventually will unravel the mysteries of Ramsey Manor.
