There are rules to the use of hyperbole; there are limitations to the use of exaggeration; and there are restrictions placed upon games journo's with respect to how far they can go in pointing out the obvious -- but all of that gets tossed out the window for most when it comes to the Halo series.

Saying that Halo is a science fiction video game franchise created by Bungie and owned and published by Microsoft Studios is like saying the sun rises in the east -- every gamer already knows that, right? But any discussion of the series has to start there, and then cover the basics, like that the original trilogy of games centered upon the adventures of the Master Chief -- John-117 -- a cybernetically-enhanced human super-soldier and bloody genius, and his AI companion, a mostly see-through babe called Cortana.

Right, so you already know all of this, and the only reason we mention it is on the off chance that you are one of the seven people who have been living on that undersea lab off the coast of Florida for the past decade and you still think the Nintendo NES is the stuff in cutting edge game play... Heh.

In honor of the 10th Anniversary of the series the elves at Microsoft have decided that some Avatar bling was the way to go. Now far be it from us to point out that a better pre-order gimme would have been a compilation of all the games (including the first) with the non-360 titles remastered for that platform, with Achievements added, but hey, nobody asked us, so we will have to be happy with a new suit and skull, right?
