Whenever we receive a communication from the good folks at Bethesda it invariably begins with "Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company" as the lead-in to the first paragraph to the press release or news announcement, because in the world of video games they want you to know that the studio and publisher that brings you wonderful games like the Fallout series, Brink, Hunted, and Rage is a child of parent company ZeniMax Media.
We usually do not choose to include that information when we write up the most recent news from them, mostly because it doesn't flow well in the reading of them, but whatever. The point is that we told you this time, so now you know!
Details for the anticipated collector's edition for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are what they wanted to share with us today -- and it happens to be a limited collector's edition too, which means that while it will be available in Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Games for Windows versions, it is not going to be so common that you do not have to think about making the effort to score one for yourself. Just the opposite in fact -- but good news! It can be pre-ordered now through participating retailers in both North America, Europe, and God's own Paradise: Australia.
In addition to including the highly-anticipated game, this premium version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also includes:
-- Alduin Statue: This collector's only statue stands 12" tall and is made of high quality PVC, and is modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files. The status showcases Alduin, the World Eater, who stands perched atop one the game's many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons. And how cool is that?
-- The Art of Skyrim Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8" x 12 1/8" coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the games iconic visual style.
-- The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DVD: This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, game play, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.
"We always say that we make the games we want to play. We can also say we create the collector's editions we'd want to own," said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. "We all want one of these!"
The extremely limited Collector's Edition will be available through pre-order and retail sales for $149.99 (US), E149.99 (Europe), £129.99 (UK), and A$199.99 (Australia), but we should probably repeat the words "Limited Quantities" again because we do not want you ending up disappointed when you do not get one because you failed to act promptly (we already ordered ours)...
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the makers of the 2006 and 2008 Games of the Year, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim re-imagines and revolutionizes the open-world fantasy epic, bringing to life a complete virtual world open for you to explore any way you choose.
Skyrim, which will be available worldwide on November 11th, 2011, has already won numerous awards including Best Console Game and Best RPG from the official Game Critics Awards at E3 2011 and Gaming Update believes it will be "the best title in the ES series ever based upon what we saw at E3 this year, which includes a massive -- did we say massive? Really MASSIVE game world, a gazillion types of mobs to battle with and loot? Yeah, there's loot. Of course there's loot!"
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has not yet been rated by the ESRB but we would not be surprised if it ended up with an M. For more information check out www.elderscrolls.com .
