Also for this game:

When the news arrived in the Gaming Update Bullpen this morning that id and Bethesda were putting on a game sale via Steam in honor of QuakeCon we were stoked -- until one of the Interns asked "What is QuakeCon?"

"What is QuakeCon?!" I repeated -- only I made it sound like it was a really dumb question by adding lots of sarcasm to my voice. "That is like saying 'What is Mr. Churro'!" I pointed out.

"Um.." the Intern faltered. "Wha.. What is Mr. Churro?" they asked.

"What is..." I mutter and then facepalm, causing the rest of the Interns to scurry under their desks and into the closet where we keep the PS2's, Intellivisions, and the Atari 2600 as well as the Salad Shooter my wife got me for Christmas.

QuakeCon and Mr. Churro

According to the Magical Wiki Mystery Tour QuakeCon is "a bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) computer gaming event with a competitive tournament held every year in Dallas, Texas, USA. The event, which is named after id Software's game Quake, sees thousands of gamers from all over the world attend every year to celebrate the company's gaming dynasty. It is North America's largest LAN party, the largest free LAN party in the world, and usually runs over a period of four days."

Are we clear now on that? Thank you Magical Wiki Mystery Tour!

As for Mr. Churro, well, that is a Mexican Bakery located at 12 East Olvera Street on the edge of the Chinatown section of Los Angeles (right across from Union Station) that is sort of tucked away in a darkened interior corridor of the building -- so if you do not know where it is it can be hard to spot -- that makes the best churros in like, well, the universe!

We will let you in on a little secret -- Mr. Churro is why E3 is held in LA. Oh yes! They could hold it anywhere in the world if they wanted to, but they don't. Because Mr. Churro is on Olvera Street and not anywhere in the world other than Olvera Street. We are just saying...

The QuakeCon Game Sale

Right, so what were we talking about again? Oh yeah!

During QuakeCon 2011 (that is today, August 4th through the 7th) there will be daily deals via Steam on id Software and Bethesda Softworks' titles, which is very cool indeed.

For a complete list of what's on sale and for more information you should probably check out Steam's website:

In addition to that -- as if that were not enough! -- several iPhone titles from id Mobile -- you know, like Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum, DOOM II RPG, DOOM Classic, and DOOM Resurrection -- will also be on sale on Apple's iTunes store -- so if you were making lame excuses before about why you do not have DOOM on your iPhone you just pretty much ran out of excuses...

If on the other hand you are like our young naivete Intern, and you do not know what we are talking about, well then here:

Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum
Now available on sale for $.99 (was $1.99)

Play the original legendary game that launched the First Person Shooter genre! You must escape from Castle Wolfenstein and defeat the twisted Nazi regime. Includes all six original episodes plus the full Spear of Destiny levels.

Relive the First Person Shooter that defined a generation with the legendary original DOOM. DOOM Classic includes the original three episodes as well as Episode Four, Thy Flesh Consumed, spread across 36 levels of non-stop carnage and action.

Now available on sale for $.99 (was $3.99)

DOOM Resurrection

DOOM Resurrection, included on the iTunes Rewind 2009 "Top Sellers" list, is another heart-pounding chapter in the legendary DOOM saga.
