Whats your handle/name on the PS2 Online server? Im not sure what exactly it is called on the network, but what name do you commonly go by?
How often do you play online?
what time of day would you normaly play online? (your local)
What games you got that are playable online?

Just thought we coudl start talking more about the playing aspects of Online play.

I get online prettymuch everyday

whenever im home and feel like it really, I dony have a particular time, unless Sony have arranged a time for all Beta testers to go online on a certain game for testing or we have a clan match.

I have Socom US Navy Seals as it was the first beta Test game we got, then Sony sent us through Twisted Metal Black Online free again for Beta Testing, then I bought Midnight Club 2, and now Sony will be sending us Hardware Arenas (Driving around in different military vehicle from Tanks to little jeeps and dune buggies blasting the hell out of eachother with the onboard weapons) again for Beta Testing (should arrive next week)

I've created a topic in Action & Espionage to discuss SOCOM, but I only have that and Midnight Club 2, but I haven't played the latter online yet. On SOCOM I go by the name of Grey Fox, or sometimes Big Boss. I'm going onto SOCOM now, so hopefully I'll see some of you there.

everytime i go in these "PS2 online" related topics, my desire to play PS2 online grows. Its got to the point where i dont want to play anything else because all i wanna play is SOCOM :(

Don't get to excited, SOCOM online was pretty disapointing.....

To you maybe.

Chipps don't let his comment put you off, thats just how he feels, see for yourself. I personally love playing SOCOM Online, it's great fun.

I read somewhere that SOCOM is still playable offline..is that true..?
if it is i might rent it out and see how it handles. It looks ace. One thing that i am worried about is that when your dead, you dont respawn. Once your dead your dead and you have to leave and join another game. is that true..?

Gatekeeper is the first person ive heard say bad things about SOCOM online so his bad view is outwaited by alot of good views ;)

well it does have single palyer offline game too. Its pretty decent, but I never got teh feel for it, I perfer Delta force on the PC but thats liek comparing aplles an oranges.
The controls arent to hard to handle, and are realtivley better set up than most other FPS on the PS2, but it doesnt allow you to customize your contols, just a few predifined sets. Thta really bothers me cause I have a system that I liked in Quake 3 for the PS1. but I cant use it cause unlike Q3 I cant put the settigns to how I like it...
And as you feared you dont respawn when ya die, you either have to wait till th end of teh round (which really sucks if ya die fast) or exit the game.... another thing I didnt like was that rounds seemed to last like only 5 min, which I guess is good if it doesnt let ya respawn, but bad if ya just want to reach out and kill someone.....

Anyways thats my opinion.

xmachine, all lower case though in TMB it's Xmachine. Still not register through central though as it always frezzes. Their should be an normal online register thing IMO

Ah, thats not too bad. same as counter strike where u have to wait for end of round..thats not bad at all really.

It's more realistic, and forces you to be more careful.

We need a few more people to play online. Contradiction is on about started a GU clan (which was suggested by T2 first), so get to Action & Espionage to join in.

I also played Midnight Club 2, that is pretty unpopular. Only a hand full of people were on.

Hey Chipps, I'm in the same boat as you.

The Irish government is forcing Eircom to make broadband available to the people over the next few years, but it won't be available in my village for a long while yet :(

On a more positive note - Kerry (nearby county) is after getting in this cool satellite broadband that allows people to have wireless, super fast internet :)

nice :)
ive found a cool interent deal that Freeserve are doing at min for broadband, where u dont have to pay anything aside from the 27.99 monthly charge. installation and modem are free. Ive persuadad my mum to let me have it..i just need to find out if i can get it :(

if i cant im going to be seriously pissed off..

another question.. can i use the PS2 online and go on broadband at same time..? say if i wanted to go on SOCOM, but my mate wanted to download some music or summat...would we both be able to go on at the same time..?

yes, but its not advisable as downloading and playing a game dont mix, it will cause lag in game and piss everyone off, plain sufring the net at the same time is fine, just dont do any downloading, well you can but its at your own risk, as players can vote you off, all it takes is 1 vote from 3 diff people, theres 15 others in game.

Chipps, I'm on Freeserve Broadband. In order to play online you will need windows SE or newer (I have ME now), a PCI Netword adapter, and an ethernet Crossover cable before you'll be able to play, then you will have to set up connection sharing on your PC.
