So do all of you who play for saturday/sunday league teams have a preferred squad number to wear when you're playing? (and why?)
I've just been thinking about this seeing as I'm playing for a team in the new season, we've started training and we've had our first friendly matches, and now ive been told i need to decide on my chosen squad number.
Usually I'd go for either 2 or 14, i cant have either, well, 14 is taken and I'm playing in midfield and 2 isnt really suitable. I've basically gotta pick between 5 and 6, I'm leaning towards number 6 as its more of a traditional midfielders number, but then theres a trend of midfielders going for the number 5 at the moment.
So, whats ur squad number/preferred number and why?
And which one should i pick?

5 seems better (not sure why).
Any team I've played for has only ever had cheap jerseys w/ no numbers on the back, so bleh.

I always wanted number 11 for some reason. I played for three different teams inculding school for 7 years, and always wore that number.
Dunno why, just always wanted it.
My mate always has number 8. Even when we went on holiday he wanted number 8 on the back of his shirt. He was a big fan of Gazza btw.
Decide who is ya fave Villa player, and pick their number.
Incidently Chelsea are retiring shirt number 25. Our legend

Yeah, thats how i lost out on number 14, one of my mates is a gooner and we all know who Arsenal's #14 is.

Well when I used to play footie for my school, I always used to wear 5 because I played centre back, and when I was at primary school I wore number 2 because I played right back then.
But lots of midfielders wear 5 today, more so than 6, so I'd go with 5.

They seem to stand out as unique and special numbers. any player i seen in those shirts usualy turns out some great performances.

Zola aint it?
about special numbers, i think the special players always seem to wear 14, like Ginola, Cryuff and Henry. 19 to me has always been a skilful youngster in a professional team.
and how the hell do you manage to get 25 or 19 for a sunday league team? i thought they wouldnt let numbers over 16

never truely played sunday league. just in our own teams. We have regular tournaments. It properly organised by the city and ****, so it sort of counts. :)
i have always objected to wearing 1, i prefer 13.
this season, i have been wearing a number 1 top, and 15 shorts.
our team kit goes from 1-17 plus, 23 and 25
i think we are getting randomly picked numbers next season, so our new kit could have a keeper top with 9 on it. which would be interesting.
but, 13 for me.

Yeah Zola is 25.
If I was gonna have a number now I'd go with 26. John Terry.
No he won't going to the goon squad either btw.

Hes coming to take over the great number 6 shirt.
I always used to were 8 but no ones wheres 8 at my new team because its unlucky (3 people broek legs wearing it in one season).
So i go for 14 or 17.

any sports i use to play which involved teams never had numbers on, just a colour for each team, or letters for crappy netball, argh which in that case I was GS or GA (Goal shoot or Goal Attack) i think thats what they were.
I was number 21 I think when I was at basketball camp lol.

I was always number 11, until last year I was number 4, because 11 was taken.
I would go with number 6. Just seems better.
